Nicaise Muamba and Maria Tanasescu are going home with two under-12 trophies after capturing both the singles and doubles titles at the U12 Indoor Rogers Junior National Championships at The Tennis Academy in Calgary over the weekend.

Top-seeded Muamba (QC) didn’t lose a set en route to the boys’ final, where he defeated his doubles partner, No. 2 Razvan Baiant (QC) 6-3, 6-3. Earlier, he and Baiant had joined forces to capture the team crown, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Liam Draxl (ON) and Pavel Badaiants (ON) in the championship match.

In the girls’ draw, No. 4 seed Tanasescu (ON) upset No. 1 Brindtha Ramasamy (ON) 7-5, 6-3 to claim the national title. She also got the best of the top-ranked player in the doubles competition, as she and partner Bianca Vanessa Andreescu (ON) defeated Ramasamy and Anca Craciun (ON) 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 in a battle of the two best pairs.

The U14 and U18 national championships take over the schedule this week, with Muamba and Ramasamy both choosing to try their hand at the under-14 competition at the Hollyburn Country Club in Vancouver.
